I am using gridded data. How do I create a spatial average?
You can do this two different ways.
One utilizes Ingrid in the Expert
Mode and the requires a series of selections from the Data Selection interface.
These methods are shown in multiple examples in the Data Library Tutorial
(data
selection, spatial
average).
Using DASILVA SMD94 data as an example,
let's start here.
and assume we want a spatial average of the following region: 2S - 2N,
40E - 60E.
First Method
- Click on the "Expert Mode" link in the table
at the top of the page. Check
Step.
- In the text box at the top of the page enter
the follow lines underneath the present text.
Y (2S) (2N) RANGE
X (40E) (60E) RANGE
[X Y] average
Click "OK". Check
Step.
- You have created spatially
averaged data and can view the data by clicking on on the "Views" links,
view the data in tablular format by clicking on the "Tables" link, or download
the data in a variety of formats by clicking on the "Data Files" link.
Second Method
- From the start page linked
above, click on the "Data Selection" link in the table at the top of the
page. Check
Page.
- Enter "40E to 60E" and
"2S to 2W" in the lon and lat text boxes. (You can also enter temporal
limites here as well.) Click "Restrict Ranges". Your page should
have these new limits in the gray box at the top of the page.
Check Step.
- Click "Stop Selecting".
This will bring you back to the database page. Click "Filters" in the table at the top of the page.
Check Step.
- Select the "XY" link in
the "Average over" line. Check Page.
You have created spatially averaged data and can view the data by clicking
on on the "Views" links, view the data in tablular format by clicking on
the "Tables" link, or download the data in a variety of formats by clicking
on the "Data Files" link.
